Vientiane – Arrive in the Charming Capital of Laos for a Night Market Visit
Vientiane maintains a relaxed ambiance alongside the banks of the Mekong River. The capital city shines with gilded Buddhist temple filigree and French architecture recalling the era of French colonialism. Quiet cafes line the streets of Old Town beneath the shade of the lush jungle canopy while the soaring figure of the Victory Monument adds to the modest skyline of Southeast Asia’s smallest capital city. Your private transfer will greet you at Wattay International Airport upon your arrival on Laos, and then bring you to your luxurious hotel at the heart of Vientiane.
The renovated French villa will offer views of a blossoming garden brimming with the colors of exotic flowers. The aroma of tamarind will fill the air as you make your way to the Patuxai Victory Monument with your guide to see the towering figure at the center of the eponymous park. Four walkways lead to the spouting fountains that symbolize the north, south, east, and west. The Arc de Triomphe in Paris inspired the seven-story monument, garnished with traditional Laotian architectural elements in the form of the five decorative towers.
Lotus leaves and dragons embellish the exterior and lead to images of gods, goddesses, and elephants along the walls and ceilings of the interior. In the evening, you will make your way to the banks of the Mekong to stroll along the promenade and bustling Night Market. Red-roofed stalls line the walkway amongst the eager visitors, joggers, and locals walk the paths and enjoy the cool breeze. The aroma of banana pancakes sweeps through the air amongst the happy laughter of patrons wandering amongst the active market.

Excellent trip.
For improvements, there are a couple of items.
The first tour guide in Hanoi did the minimum. He didn’t escort us through some of the exhibits and explain what we were looking at, for example, the "Hanoi Hilton." He also didn’t escort us into the airport on departure. All the other tour guides escorted us through the exhibits and brought us into the airport for check-in.
Flights in-country were middle seat and window. We expressly stated we did not want cheap seats on a 30k trip.
We wanted a cooking program one day. None of the activities met our stated expectations.

Our trip far exceeded our expectations. Every component of the trip was well planned and seamless. The hotels were perfect for us. We enjoyed the balconies a great deal.
The guides and drivers could not have been better. They were polite, always on time or early, accommodating, and incredibly knowledgeable. In Cambodia, it was very hot and we were biking. The driver would just show up at times with water and cold towels for us. We felt so pampered. Guides would rearrange the schedules according to the weather and our wishes. They even added events that we were interested in. One guide even offered to do an extra food tour one evening since he was free.
There were so many highlights arranged by the Zicasso travel company I cannot name them all. They included the day with the elephants, a blessing by a monk who took time to chat with us, the alms-giving at 6am in Laos, and even a private dinner in a literal treehouse.
This was a vacation of dreams. It could not have been better. I would recommend the travel company without any hesitation. Probably the best travel company we have ever dealt with!
