Chefchaouen – Arrive in the Blue Town

Chefchaouen will immediately take your breath away. Oddly, it is not the blue so much as it is the location. The old town is perched on a mountain slope. Vehicles cannot enter through the narrow town gate, and they certainly would not be able to navigate the steep streets. This inaccessible location is part of the city’s charm, and your guide will help carry your luggage into the old town. Your hotel will be in the heart of old Chefchaouen in a converted 15th-century building with a private balcony. Although it is a two-hour drive from Fes-Sais Airport, starting in Chefchaouen is a great way to overcome jet lag or travel fatigue.

Detailed Description

Morocco tends to conjure images of souks, medinas, mosques, and bustling streets of traders, but these images are just one side to Morocco. There is so much more to this landscape that stretches from the Atlantic Ocean to the high mountains and the Sahara Desert. One day, you will be surrounded by the colors of busy city souks, and the next day, you can be standing on a rugged mountain pass. Some evenings will be spent listening to storytellers and snake charmers, and others will be spent gazing at the desert stars. Morocco is a country with an incredible range of experiences, and you will begin with Chefchaouen, which is also known as the blue pearl.

Chefchaouen is entirely pedestrianized and ideal for overcoming any travel fatigue. You can explore at your leisure, and there is something that will capture your heart around every corner. Next, you will visit a market and cook with a local chef. You will then leave Chefchaouen to see the highlights of Morocco, starting with Roman cities of Volubilis and Meknes.

You will then spend a couple of nights in Fes. With its energy and never-ending procession of local sights, the world’s largest walled city is Morocco’s most iconic experience. You will then cross the Middle Atlas, and your driver will lead you to the desert. Camels will take you further into the dunes. Your evening journey will be an impressive sunrise and sunset ride the following day. Your experience will be complemented by your boutique camp, where you can casually watch the desert go through its impressive color changes.

The following day, you will leave the sand but stay in the desert with a stop in Rissani. You will then continue Todra Gorge before exploring a slightly fictional world. Ouarzazate is the small city at the heart of Morocco’s movie industry, and you will be amazed by how many international blockbusters have been shot nearby. You will stay in Ait Benhaddou the next day, which was the setting for Gladiator. Today, it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Lastly, Marrakech will complete your tour.

Morocco Tour Review: Casablanca, Fes, Rabat, Marrakech, Hassan II Mosque, Mountain Hike, Desert Camp, 10-Day Trip

We have used Zicasso affiliates several times and this was one of the best. They tailored a creative program in Casablanca, Fes, Rabat, and Marrakech to our likes, needs, and abilities, and modified it as needed before and after the trip began.

The guides were very good on the whole. Two of the three hotels were outstanding and the third was excellent. We couldn’t have had a more punctual, careful, or informative driver. We even met one of the owners of the company for a coffee. He went out of his way to make our stay special, safe, and secure.

Morocco Trip Review: Rabat, Tangier, Marrakech, Atlas Mountains, Hiking, 11 Days

We couldn't have asked for a better tour guide and company. Our travel agent really saved our trip. We reached out just a few weeks before our 11-day visit to the country. We were so impressed at how well he listened to what we wanted to do, as well as our challenges with trying to meet up with our daughter. Despite that, he was able to pull together a magnificent itinerary for Rabat, Tangier, Marrakech, and the Atlas Mountains.

We needed a driver the whole time and our driver was so much more than that. The riads our travel agent found, the restaurants, and the cultural experiences were just perfect. Plus, we had ample downtime. The guides were knowledgeable and accommodating to our requests.

From the minute we arrived in Rabat to the moment we left, we felt in good hands. We are so grateful to their expertise and to Zicasso for connecting us to such an excellent person and company. We will reach out to Zicasso the next time we plan a trip abroad. Meanwhile, we tell everyone we meet about your services.

Morocco Vacation Review: Fes, Marrakech, Sahara, High Atlas Mountains, 2 Weeks

While I normally handle my own trip planning, we decided to work with Zicasso for our first trip to Morocco at the advice of a friend, and I am so pleased with the entire experience. The knowledgeable travel agent listened to our ideas and helped us create an itinerary.

Everything was seamless. Accommodations were fantastic and the experiences exceeded our expectations. Our driver and guides enriched our understanding of the country and culture, while providing us a nice platform for exploring on our own. They were all very personable and well informed.

Zicasso’s travel company was absolutely wonderful to work with. The itinerary planned for us was just amazing—we felt like we got to do and see so much.

The real gem of our trip was our driver—he was exceptional. We spent so much time in the car moving from place to place, and he was warm, welcoming, accommodating, full of interesting information, and fun to be around. We appreciated everything he did to make our trip so great.

I would highly recommend this travel company to anyone—they are clearly experts at what they do, and it shows. All the tour guides we had the pleasure to meet were also wonderful. It was a trip of a lifetime and we are so grateful!
