Western Seaboard

28 miles west of Glasgow is a tall, white lighthouse standing against the calm waters of the Firth of Clyde, the largest and deepest coastal waters in Britain. The port town of Gourock is painted bright colors as it looks out to the marina. Small fishing boats dot the blue Atlantic waters. Their masts sway in the gentle wading ocean. The Southwest Highlands rise around the Clyde Estuary in the distance. Southwest along the Firth is Ayr, a city known for its long stretch of sandy beaches and Georgian homes. Land in Glasgow where your private transfer waits for you at the airport. The city has a contemporary earthiness draped across the buildings, filled with an almost hidden sophistication.

Victorian buildings leave a legacy of the wealth amassed by the manufacturing trade around the turn of the 20th century.  The timeless Glasgow Cathedral was constructed in the 15th century and maintains a dark, medieval interior. However the Gothic architecture offers insight into the construction of the old city. Regimental colors dangle alongside the entry nave. The wooden roof contains timber dating back to its original gathering in the 14th century. You leave the city behind and make your way along edges of the rippling coastal waters and arrive at Turnberry. The greenery stretches across the Scottish lowlands and spreads from coast to coast. Settle into your luxurious accommodations near the cool lapping waters of the Atlantic.

Detailed Description

The ball sits atop the tee and waits for your swing. The pin flutters in the distance as a beacon hundreds of yards away. Bunkers hide in the shadows of sloping hills flanking the fairway. You grip the club, set your feet, reach back, and swing. The ball sails over the manicured grass and bounces closer to the green. You can imagine the crowd clapping, cheering you on as you play. This custom tailored Scotland golf vacation tour of British Open clubs helps you experience the glory of historic design, legendary rounds, and exceptional victories.

Your luxury Scotland tour for golf begins with your arrival in Glasgow. The city is filled with a turn of the century charm that emanates a contemporary energy. Your private transfer meets you at the airport and takes you along the Firth of Clyde coastline to Turnberry. The remarkable resort offers spectacular views and splendid luxury on approximately 800 acres of land. You make your way to Prestwick and find its unique history vibrant and tangible. The first British Open was played on the club grounds in 1860.

Royal Troon has held the British Open on eight separate occasions. The distance to the green varies greatly because each hole offers a distinctive challenge for amateurs and professionals alike. The landscape around Ailsa Course is as spectacular as the course itself. Play along curving coastline filled with rocky outcroppings. Transfer to St. Andrews, the home of golf, and explore the charm and history of the city at your own pace. Carnoustie Course offers the challenge of its flat and open holes, leaving most of your shots open to the elements.

You calculate each swing to move the ball closer to the green. On the Old Course of St. Andrews you can feel the drama of history as you traverse the first golf course. In the same day you will play the New Course of St. Andrews, which carves through gorse bushes. Relax in the spa or around the plushness of your hotel before your private transfer escorts you to the airport for your flight home.

Scotland Travel Review: Edinburgh, Glasgow, Inverness, Loch Ness, Highlands, 9 Days

We recently returned from our tour of Scotland that we booked through Zicasso’s travel company, and I can honestly say it exceeded my expectations in nearly every way. Our travel agent created a wonderful itinerary, with some fantastic tours. Even though we had some mix-ups along the way, the travel agent and our driver quickly changed plans and got us to other great sites. In the end, everything worked out and the travel company made it right.

From the moment we arrived, everything felt thoughtfully organized, without ever being rigid or rushed. Our personal driver struck the perfect balance between being informative and personable, sharing rich historical context, local legends, and even a bit of humor that made long drives feel short. He made the trip so much fun and kept us laughing the entire trip. It never felt like a scripted experience; instead, it felt like traveling with someone who genuinely loves Scotland and wants you to love it too.

The itinerary was particularly well designed. We covered iconic highlights, from Edinburgh, through Glasgow, staying in Inverness, then ending the trip in Edinburgh in one of the most romantic and elegant places we have stayed.

Through our travels, we saw dramatic Highlands, serene lochs, and charming villages, while still having enough free time to explore on our own. I appreciated that the schedule didn’t feel overly packed; there was space to soak in the scenery, enjoy a quiet walk, or linger a bit longer in places that captured our attention.

The accommodations were another standout. Each place had its own character, ranging from cozy inns to elegant hotels, all clean and comfortable. It felt like an authentic experience rather than a generic one.

Transportation was smooth and reliable. Having our own personal driver made a big difference. It allowed for a more intimate, flexible experience and made it one of the best vacation experiences we have had.

If I had to offer one small suggestion, it would be to include slightly more time in some of the smaller towns—we often wished we could stay just a bit longer. That said, I understand the challenge of balancing such a rich itinerary.

Overall, this was a memorable and enriching trip, and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this travel company to anyone looking to explore Scotland in a meaningful and well-organized way. I came home with not just photos, but a genuine appreciation for the country’s history, landscapes, and culture.

Scotland Tour Review: Edinburgh, Portree, Oban, 9 Nights

Zicasso's tour company created a very detailed travel plan, considered my input, and came up with a way to satisfy all the things we wanted to see, and added in some additional fun things to try!

Scotland, Ireland Tour Review: Edinburgh, Stirling, Dublin, Galway, Castles, 9 Days

Zicasso’s travel specialists were excellent to work with, as we adjusted our itinerary many times from initial contact to the time of travel. Our travel party significantly reduced in number and they worked with us to put together a great tour of Scotland (Edinburgh, including the castle, Royal Holyrood Palace, and a day trip to Stirling Castle with a great chauffeur/guide) and Ireland, arranging our flight to Dublin with transportation to Galway, then return via train for activities in Dublin. We had a wonderful trip and would highly recommend the travel company.

Scotland Tour Review: Edinburgh, Isle of Skye, 9 Days

The trip was awesome, but the standout portion of the trip was our time with our chauffeur. He both knowledgeable and engaged the entire time, and just a pleasure to be around. Our accommodations were nice and our scheduled excursions in Edinburgh were great.

If I could offer one suggestion, and, in truth, it's difficult to even come up with one, we would have appreciated assistance with dinner reservations while we were in Edinburgh. Other Zicasso trips we've taken have included this service and we have found it very helpful.

I am looking forward to our next trip with this travel company! We've already made a list of what we'd like to see next time. Thank you so much for providing such an amazing experience. Looking forward to my next (my fifth) Zicasso trip!

England, Scotland Vacation Review: London, York, Edinburgh, Stonehenge, 10 Nights

We recently traveled to the UK using Zicasso’s travel specialist and we had the most amazing trip. Everything was planned out perfectly. From the pick-up at the airport to drop-off, we met friendly and interesting drivers who couldn’t wait to share their knowledge of London, York, and Edinburgh.

The guides we had for various excursions were fantastic. They went above and beyond to accommodate us. My husband is an amateur photographer and they were great with suggestions and very patient while he took his photos.

We had a small issue with a hotel room and it was resolved within hours by the travel specialist and her team, which made our stay a dream. She was also able to get us inside tickets to Stonehenge and, wow, it was magical.

Honestly, we were overwhelmed at first trying to plan this on our own, but working with the travel specialist was the best thing we did. We have wonderful memories of England and Scotland, and we are very grateful.
