Detailed Description

Bathed in fantasy and swashbuckling adventure, Don Quixote is one of the greatest literary fictions of Western history. While the hero imagines his knightly story, Miguel de Cervantes’ inspiration can be found all over the historic La Mancha region of Spain. Celebrating the 400 year anniversary of the book's full publication, this unique tour recaptures the quixotic spirit and timeless glory of a Spain that lives long in everyone's imagination. Wander through the cobbled streets of whitewashed stone villages, admire the windmills that Quixote once fought, sleep in castles direct from idealistic fairytales, and settle into the rhythm of medieval Spain. The destinations feel fictional, lost in their ancient glory and unchanged for centuries. But then a feast of tapas and wine is delivered to an al fresco terrace and the surreal becomes real.

This itinerary connects destinations on the European Council accredited Don Quixote cultural route, taking you across the plains of La Mancha and the heart of Spain's Golden Age. An expert guide helps your imagination run away with the adventures of Quixote as you visit the places that influenced and inspired Cervantes’ idealism. Accommodations are mostly in paradors: 16th and 17th century buildings that have been converted to luxurious hotels. Sleep in castles and monasteries, tucked away in towns unchanged since the book's publication. All transfers are by luxury saloon vehicle and the itinerary has a very relaxed pace, with lots of time for leisurely Spanish dinners and evenings absorbing the atmosphere of village plazas.

Start in Oropesa, a medieval town of such splendor it seems mythical. Cross the 11th century drawbridge to the 16th century castle parador and the quixotic paradigm immediately takes over. Spend days three and four touring the tiny traditional villages and famous windmills of La Mancha, stopping at museums, plazas, and fascinating structures of 16th century stone. Day five is dedicated to wine tasting at the home of Dulcinea, the woman Don Quixote's wooed with his knightly errands of chivalry. Enjoy some of Spain's finest paradors on days six and seven, the relaxed destinations combined with a visit to the prison where Cervantes wrote his masterpiece.

As you journey south you weave into the mountains of La Mancha, mysterious villages clinging to peaks with promises of medieval glamour. Day eight visits some fabulous vineyards in a little visited part of Spain, while day nine explores the most influential town in the book, Tomelloso. Completing the tour, you head to Madrid on day ten, stopping at two magnificent palaces en route. After ten days on this luxury Spain tour, The Ingenious Gentleman Don Quixote of La Mancha is more than fiction; it's an ode to the timeless beauty of Spanish tradition and culture.

Spain Tour Review: 1 Week

Zicasso’s travel specialist is absolutely A+—BEST IN CLASS!!!

Planning the trip with him was delightful. He listened carefully during our initial call and we had several conversations and emails to design the itinerary. His recommendations were spot-on and he was very flexible and supportive of our requested modifications, and incredibly responsive. It was an excellent experience planning the trip!

We LOVED the travel app he uses—it was truly helpful during the time we were in Spain. Everyone in our family really appreciated it!

When on the ground in Spain, we were in texting contact with him throughout the trip, including requesting additional add-on experiences the day before, which he made happen, and other small and meaningful adjustments! All of the drivers and guides selected were on time, professional, with deep knowledge, and delightful and fun to be with.

We absolutely loved our trip and it was just fabulous to work with a travel partner as excellent as him!

We highly recommend!!

Morocco, Spain Travel Review: Madrid, Cordoba, Granada, Alhambra Tour, Prado Tour, 10-Day Trip

Our family had an amazing time on our 10-day trip to Morocco and Southern Spain! The itinerary that was crafted for us was wonderful, where we saw multiple cities, with simple transfers.

The tour guides in each city were wonderful, with incredible knowledge of each city and site that we toured.

The hotels in Spain that were chosen for us were also great in quality and location—ideally situated in each city. In particular, our hotel in Córdoba was beautiful, located in an historic building.

All of the transportation services used had professional drivers in modern, clean vans.

In the event that we had an issue, question, or needed a recommendation, Zicasso’s tour company was very responsive and really helpful. We really were happy with our experience in the planning and execution of our family trip!

Spain Tour Review: Scenery, Local Cuisine, 2 Weeks

The trip was great. Zicasso’s travel specialist and her crew put together a great itinerary and left us plenty of downtime, so we were not exhausted each evening. The drivers were good and, although not guides, offered plenty of history along the way. All the guides were exceptional.

We loved all the hotels, especially our hotel in the mountains. That was very special.

The travel specialist had obviously passed along the note that we did not want to go shopping, like sometimes happens with the guides.

The food and restaurant suggestions were all good.

Overall, it was a very well-planned and articulated agenda. The software that they use to keep in contact worked very well once I understood it! Lol.

My only comment was that on trips in the past, the beginning of the trip started with a personal stop at our hotel by a representative from the company. I understood later that their headquarters is in a more remote area. But if I was a new traveler, I would have enjoyed putting a face with the name. Fortunately, the package they left at the hotel did indeed have all our tickets and passes.

I would definitely recommend this travel company and would use them again.
