Santiago – A Touch of Chilean Flare

Santiago is a city of cosmopolitan chic set against the backdrop of the snowcapped Andes Mountains. Skyscrapers imitate the mountaintops, soaring into the air above the city streets. The coastal range spreads west to the Pacific Ocean and highlights the city’s bustling neighborhoods and relaxed suburban parks touching the Mapocho River. Your flight lands at Comodoro Arturo Merino Benitez International Airport, where your private transfer greets you upon arrival. The hill of Cerro Santa Lucia contains a steep stone stairway leading to the lookout at Torre Mirador. An assortment of churches spread along the hillside.

The historic center shimmers with buildings harkening back to the Spanish arrival in the 16th century, rising in the Plaza de Armas. Palm trees cast shade over the cobbled walkways. The cathedral was erected in the 18th century. The tripartite doorway leads to an impressive interior that contains the aromas of frankincense and myrrh. The candlelight flickering off the tiled floor guides visitors’ eyes to the dramatic marble and lapis lazuli altar, glowing against the vaulted ceiling. The neighborhood known as Paris-Londres was named after the main streets swathed in European charm, paved with pebbles, and shaded by blossoming trees set against the lining structures reminiscent of a hidden romantic lane in Paris.

The city’s culture emanates from the metro stations through the decorative murals capturing the beauty of the people by remembering the history from Spanish settlement to the Pinochet regime. From the platform in the station connected to the Universidad de Chile, you can view the Art Deco mural created in 1996, offering fragments of the country’s past. Students, artists, philosophers, and locals often stand on the platform listening to the trains pass as they take in the impressive colors and textures covering the walls like curtains.

Detailed Description

The romance of Argentina and Chile emanates from the blossoming wild blackberries of Patagonia and is embodied in the cosmopolitan ambiance of Buenos Aires and Santiago. Your 9-day tour is best experienced during the Southern Hemisphere summer and autumn (January to June), when the vineyards are ready for harvest and the cities welcome visitors with lavish art and music festivals. Your passionate South American getaway begins with your arrival in Santiago, Chile. Your private transfer meets you at Comodoro Arturo Merino Benitez International Airport before escorting you to a luxurious hotel near the heart of the city. The remainder of the day is yours to get acquainted with Santiago at your preferred pace.

The next morning, you and your partner travel to the Maipo Valley for a day in the vineyards. Visit various wineries and sample stunning varietals before returning to Santiago for the night. Then, you have a private transfer to the airport for your flight south to Puerto Varas. The charming ambiance allows you and your partner to easily settle into the historic setting. Visit the historic wood churches, or enjoy the walking trails offering a view of Osorno Volcano. The next day takes you to Chiloe to traverse Chile’s second largest island. Discover the unique traditions that connect and separate the island from mainland Chile before viewing the remarkable penguin colony nesting on the Pacific Ocean shores.

Afterward, you meet your private transfer at the hotel to begin your journey through the Andean Mountains to reach Bariloche. Delight in the romantic landscapes offering secluded views to mountain peaks, waterfalls, rivers, and lakes en route to the charming town situated in Argentina’s Lakes District. The remainder of the day is yours to indulge in the romantic alpine atmosphere or relish the artisan chocolates made in town. The next day is at your leisure to delight in the splendors in and around Bariloche. You could rent a bike to explore the Small Circuit leading around the local lakes or traverse the trails of Nahuel Huapi National Park.

Next, you fly from Bariloche to Buenos Aires. Your private transfer leads you from Comodoro Arturo Merino Benitez International Airport to your hotel along the charming cobblestone streets of the Recoleta neighborhood. In the evening, you and your partner share a passionate embrace while learning the steps of tango with a private dance instructor. The following morning, your guide meets you at the hotel eager to show you the distinct neighborhoods of Buenos Aires, taking in the charms of Palermo, the art of La Boca, and the unique cemetery of Recoleta—home to Eva “Evita” Peron. On the final day, your private transfer meets you at the hotel to bring you to the airport for your flight home. You can always extend your romantic getaway with time on the beach in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil or an adventurous escapade in Cuzco, Peru.

Our trip was more than we could have hoped for. The care with which our trip was planned and executed by Zicasso's travel company was outstanding, as were the people, activities, and locations that were part of it all. Thank you very much. We’ll be in touch again.

Argentina, Uruguay Tour Review: Buenos Aires, Salta Province, Iguazu Falls, Wineries, Scenery, 1-Week Trip

Our Argentina trip was really fantastic! It's such a large country that it was hard to narrow down a few places to visit for our short time there. We decided on Buenos Aires, Salta Province, and Iguazú Falls (with a day trip to Uruguay).

Zicasso’s travel company was very easy to work with, being very open and accommodating to our ideas for the itinerary. They managed everything—booking hotels, car service, daily guides and tours, wineries, some restaurants, and our in-country flights. They were great in finding perfect guides to help us navigate where we went and offer lots of good historical information. The travel company was super-communicative, checking in with us almost daily and keeping track of our driver pick-ups and in-country flights.

I think the highlight for me was the Salta Province—it's such a remote area, but with the most beautiful and diverse scenery. The travel company found for us a fantastic driver/guide who did all the driving on some treacherous terrain, translated all our communication, and found some charming places to eat while on the road. He also was very thoughtful in downloading a playlist with music we had talked about liking and put together a short video of our travels as a keepsake. There were some fabulous wineries in the Salta region, so we felt like we experienced a large part of the province.

We also visited Iguazú Falls, which were spectacular from Argentina and Brazil. The travel company made it easy in booking us accommodations inside the national park so we could get an early start on our tour. Our guide there was also wonderful—she shared a lot of interesting information of the area and even told us about a restaurant back in Buenos Aires which we visited, which turned out to be one of the highlights of the trip.

I would highly recommend the travel company, which can plan a great trip from soup to nuts. The women we worked with were delightful to deal with and so welcoming and helpful.

Argentina Vacation Review: Buenos Aires, Bariloche, Salta, Iguazu Falls, Tango Lesson, Cooking Classes, Boat Trip, Hiking, 2 Weeks

Argentina was all we hoped for and more! Thank you to Zicasso’s travel specialist and the travel company for a beautiful and unforgettable trip!

Although we entered this journey with little knowledge of South America or Argentina, we were expertly guided by the travel specialist from the first conversation and over many others.

Our trip was tailored to many specifications—private tours, drivers, boutique hotels, restaurant reservations, and unique experiences. We felt very cared for and the lines of communication were open for any questions or guidance. We had a fabulous mix of nature and city—from the incredible Buenos Aires to Bariloche, Salta, and the Iguazú Falls.

Argentina is a large country that required good planning and navigation to optimize our experience over the two weeks we had. The travel specialist helped us organize an itinerary that kept us on schedule, with knowledgeable and fun English-speaking guides who met us at our hotels, local drivers, boats, and many planes. Her recommendations gave us experiences we might never have found or tried. We were leery of our private tango lesson and day in Tigre. With the travel specialist’s encouragement we agreed and these activities became some of our most memorable travel experiences. We were also able to incorporate some much-appreciated free time into our days for wandering or relaxation.

We would highly recommend the travel specialist and the travel company to personalize a trip to Argentina. Thank you again!!!!

Chile Travel Review: Santiago, Patagonia, Torres del Paine, Scenery, 1-Week Trip

Zicasso’s travel specialist (and our guide) were great partners in planning, adjusting, communicating, and following up on our trip to Chile/Patagonia. We discussed itinerary and cost options early on and actually made a few adjustments along the way (including a change of hotels and activities)—but all easy.

The travel specialist was very available and helped with confirming transportation, timing and helped us when there was a significant issue at our hotel in Santiago (no water/hot water for a full day!).
