Detailed Description
The wonders of Patagonia are ineffable, filled with inspiring drama and captivating charm. Your 22-day Patagonia tour for seniors takes you on a thrilling adventure across the landscape, encompassing the mountains and lakes, rivers and waters, and panoramas and cultures spread throughout the region. You arrive in Santiago, the capital of Chile. The city is home to incredible art and vibrant markets. The next morning, you venture south on a flight to Punta Arenas, the southernmost city in Chile, beginning your Patagonia vacation. Your guide leads you on the first of many Patagonia active tours, venturing through the woods to the top of Cerro Mirador for your first view of the stunning scenery across the Strait of Magellan.
The following day, you set out to Seno Otway to visit the penguin colony en route to Puerto Natales. Once in town, your guide takes you on an introductory hike along the Gulf of Admiral Montt. Venture north to the Milodon Cave, home to the ancient milodon, a giant sloth, before arriving at your luxurious accommodation at a traditional Patagonian estancia. Next, you travel along Last Hope Sound for an unforgettable view of Serrano Glacier and the surrounding landscape. Make your way into Torres del Paine National Park and hike to the shores of Grey Lake to fully appreciate the view of Grey Glacier and the Paine Massif. You hike along the trail, lined with stunning local flora, to Lake Sarmiento and the waterfall of Salto Grande. You reach the lookout of Lake Nordenskjold before heading to your accommodation. Our Argentina trip was really fantastic! It's such a large country that it was hard to narrow down a few places to visit for our short time there. We decided on Buenos Aires, Salta Province, and Iguazú Falls (with a day trip to Uruguay).
Zicasso’s travel company was very easy to work with, being very open and accommodating to our ideas for the itinerary. They managed everything—booking hotels, car service, daily guides and tours, wineries, some restaurants, and our in-country flights. They were great in finding perfect guides to help us navigate where we went and offer lots of good historical information. The travel company was super-communicative, checking in with us almost daily and keeping track of our driver pick-ups and in-country flights.
I think the highlight for me was the Salta Province—it's such a remote area, but with the most beautiful and diverse scenery. The travel company found for us a fantastic driver/guide who did all the driving on some treacherous terrain, translated all our communication, and found some charming places to eat while on the road. He also was very thoughtful in downloading a playlist with music we had talked about liking and put together a short video of our travels as a keepsake. There were some fabulous wineries in the Salta region, so we felt like we experienced a large part of the province.
We also visited Iguazú Falls, which were spectacular from Argentina and Brazil. The travel company made it easy in booking us accommodations inside the national park so we could get an early start on our tour. Our guide there was also wonderful—she shared a lot of interesting information of the area and even told us about a restaurant back in Buenos Aires which we visited, which turned out to be one of the highlights of the trip.
I would highly recommend the travel company, which can plan a great trip from soup to nuts. The women we worked with were delightful to deal with and so welcoming and helpful.

Argentina is a large country that required good planning and navigation to optimize our experience over the two weeks we had. Her recommendations gave us experiences we might never have found or tried. We were leery of our private tango lesson and day in Tigre. Zicasso’s travel specialist (and our guide) were great partners in planning, adjusting, communicating, and following up on our trip to Chile/Patagonia. We discussed itinerary and cost options early on and actually made a few adjustments along the way (including a change of hotels and activities)—but all easy.
The travel specialist was very available and helped with confirming transportation, timing and helped us when there was a significant issue at our hotel in Santiago (no water/hot water for a full day!).
