Santiago – Bustling Allure

Santiago surprises visitors with endless delights. The city rests on an inland plain between the Andes Mountains and the Pacific Ocean. The Mapocho River meanders through the city center, lined with lush parks with views of the snowcapped peaks of the Andes on a clear day. Bellavista Street runs through the heart of the Bohemian neighborhood of the same name. Colorfully painted facades create a vibrant ambiance in the district. Charming cafes set out tables and umbrellas for a quaint atmosphere emanating from the city. The city’s historic charms emanate from the architecture in neighborhoods of Bellas Artes and Barrio Brasil.

Mercado Central and La Vega Food Market erupt with life throughout the day. The iron ceiling is reminiscent of British design, but the fresh, exotic produce of the market stalls and luxurious collection of fresh seafood are uniquely Chilean. The central market is the city’s celebrated fish market, with an arrangement of vendors providing a variety for the day, caught that morning and cooked fresh inside the central dining area. Santiago is artistic, cosmopolitan, and wonderfully eccentric, filled with friendly people eager to show visitors the proper lifestyle of a Santiaguinos.

Your 8-day glamping in Chilean Patagonia tour takes you from the rich soil of the San Antonio Valley to the ascending peaks of Patagonia in the Torres del Paine National Park.

On this Patagonia vacation, the splendor is endless, only matched by the luxuries of your stay. When you arrive in Santiago, Chile, your private transfer is waiting at the airport. The city is lively and cosmopolitan. The neighborhoods are artistic and friendly. You settle into your lavish accommodation and enjoy the remainder of the day at your leisure. The next morning, your private transfer meets you at the hotel and escorts you on a wine tour of the San Antonio Valley. You have a sensational discovery of a boutique vineyard, where your guide leads you through the process of wine making, followed by an informative and flavorful sampling of the wines.

You could indulge in another wine tour or venture out to one of the many viewing areas around the foothills encircling the valley, traveling by bike or horseback. Then, you return to Santiago where you board your flight to Punta Arenas, located on the southern edge of Chile. Your private transfer takes you from the airport to Lago Toro, where you settle into a pristine luxury camp inside Torres del Paine National Park. Argentina, Chile Vacation Review: Buenos Aires, Iguazu Falls, Lake District, Calafate, Tierra del Fuego, Torres del Paine National Park, Cruise, Glacier Visit, 3 Weeks

We enjoyed the trip very much. We had planned to visit every place of interest to us in Patagonia on this trip, so it was quite a complex trip to arrange. Zicasso’s travel specialist did a great job overall. We had private guides and private cars for everything, so we could enjoy the experiences at our own pace and focus on the things that interested us.

We started in Buenos Aires, but our main focus was natural beauty. We spent a very interesting day and a half in the city, though. Our guide was very knowledgeable about the local history and the sites we visited. Next we went to Iguazú Falls, which was a spectacular experience. Our guide there was the only one who didn't seem as deep or as organized as all the others, but that was a minor issue. Although it is wickedly expensive, I would highly recommend that travelers stay in the one and only lodge inside the Iguazú Falls national park. We got a lot more out of our time there because we were right there at the park.

Next we went to the Lake District and spent memorable days on the water there; amazing scenery! We also saw condors during one of our day-long boat rides on the lake.

Next, we went to Calafate. Although we are not trekkers, the visits to the two main glaciers were unforgettable. The travel specialist had us in the VIP cabin for the day-long boat trip and we had a very knowledgeable guide for the visit to the Perito Moreno glacier.

We did the four-day cruise through Tierra del Fuego next, which I highly recommend, ending in Chile, where we spent two days at the Torres del Paine National Park, one by road in the park with a very knowledgeable private guide, and the second on a full-day lake tour with a marvelous lunch at a scenic ranch, with a close-up view to a glacier.

Chile Vacation Review: Patagonia, Torres del Paine, Hiking, 10 Days

We went mostly into Patagonia and Torres del Paine, an amazing location. Zicasso’s travel specialist delivered as promised! Everything was first-class and his recommendations for everything from tours to restaurants were right on.

A special note to those with food allergies:

I have a lot of food allergies, so it is not easy for me to eat out, let alone out of the country. I let the travel specialist know ahead of time and all my tours, hotels, and guides knew I was coming and really helped to accommodate me. THANKS AGAIN!
